Abstract

Beavers are the largest species ever to be reintroduced to Scotland and have been exerting their “ecosystem engineering” for 20 years to boost biodiversity and restore lost environmental linkages. However, this has not been a smooth ride. By drawing together Dr. Law's research from the last 20 years, his talk will detail the successes, failures, highs and lows of what it has taken to bring this species back and what it means for future biodiversity recovery in Scotland and beyond.

About the Speaker

Alan Law is a freshwater scientist and lecturer based at the University of Stirling, Scotland. His research is focussed on harnessing natural processes to kick start freshwater restoration, whilst considering wider processes such as biogeochemical cycling, disease, the aquatic:terrestrial interface, and, most importantly, people.
