Geography Alum Goes Viral

August 15, 2017

Jerry Shannon, who completed his PhD in our dept a few years ago and is now an Assistant Professor of Geography at the University of Georgia, Athens, has gone viral for a map he made that overlays the path of totality for the eclipse and Waffle Houses.  He created it after seeing other silly maps that included Sasquatch sightings and the path of totality.  The Waffle House map seems to have captured the regional imagination and has been covered in a variety of new outlets. Jerry said it was the best wasted hour of work he has ever done.  His map appears with other interesting maps in an article on Journal-Constitution).
