Reflections of Dignity: The Role of Art in Incarcerated Youth Expression

Juvenile Justice Advocates International and the Human Rights Program are honored to invite you to the Minneapolis opening of Reflections of Dignity, an art exhibit featuring art from youth in justice systems from around the world.

This global art exhibit is more than an art display; it is a window into the hearts and minds of children in detention around the world. Through powerful works of art, these children share their hopes, dreams, and fears, reminding us of their inherent dignity in the face of systems that too often silence them. Each piece, accompanied by the artist’s own words, carries a profound message: that creativity can break through walls, and that every child deserves to be seen not for their mistakes, but for their potential.

The event will include a panel discussion followed by a reception and exhibit opening. 

The panel will be moderated by Human Rights Program Director Carrie Booth Walling. Panelists include: 

• Sarahi Garcia - Juvenile Justice Advocates International Latin America Director
• Amane Etefa - JJAI Human Rights Intern and World Congress Art Exhibit Coordinator
• Douglas Keillor - JJAI Executive Director

Barbara Frey, Former JJAI Chair and former Director of UMN Human Rights Program, will deliver remarks at the reception.
