The University of Minnesota Master of Human Rights (MHR) program is thrilled to graduate its first cohort of students this Spring, 2018.  Our diverse group of future leaders in the field of human rights have already started to create progressive change around the globe.

The two-year master's program is jointly offered by the Humphrey School of Public Affairs and the College of Liberal Arts. This collaboration brings together these schools’ highly regarded offerings in human rights and faculty expertise in fields ranging from non-governmental organization (NGO) management to global public policy.

Some of the Masters candidates’ highlights can be found below:

  • Richa Sharma dedicated her summer to protecting those most vulnerable to sexual and gender based violence to ensure the cycle of violence is broken.

  • Jacqulyn Meyer Kantack dedicated her summer to researching cluster munition usage in Syria and ensuring that other countries comply with the ban of cluster munition usage.

  • While many people think about international issues when they hear the words human rights, Maria Terra was able to see first-hand how human rights ideas and principles can be applied on a local level.

  • As a legal intern for Global Rights for Women, Anna Rincon was invited to attend a three-day regional conference in Bucharest, Romania addressing domestic violence against women and girls in Central and Eastern Europe.

  • Over this past summer, Andrea Martinez was able to apply her knowledge of human rights and her understanding of Mexico to help Mexican NGOs improve their fundraising.

Keep an eye out for upcoming updates on what’s in store for our soon-to-be graduates!
