IHRC Summer Graduate Fellowship
The Immigration History Research Center Summer Graduate Fellowship provides summer funding for migration-related research to full-time UMN graduate students in good academic standing with demonstrated potential in their field.
The fellowship will provide a stipend that may be used for living expenses as well as research travel and expenses. The fellowship may be awarded more than once to the same student during their enrollment in the University.
Eligibility
To be considered for IHRC Summer Graduate Fellowships, candidates must:
- Be admitted to, or currently enrolled in, a Masters or doctoral degree program at the University of Minnesota;
- Have an in-progress or planned research project on migration-related topics.
Projects that focus on or engage with im/migrant, ethnic, or refugee communities in Minnesota will be given preference, as will projects that utilize the Immigration History Research Center Archives (University Libraries).
To capture your fellowship activities and accomplishments, a final report or project is expected at the conclusion of the fellowship which may be in the form of a public presentation to the UMN campus community, creating a digital humanities project for the IHRC website, or by completing another project designed in collaboration with IHRC staff. In addition, we would hope to be notified of any academic publications that result from research conducted as a Summer Graduate Fellow, and that such publications would acknowledge IHRC support.
Application Materials:
- A completed fellowship application form.
- A two-page description of your research topic, how the fellowship supports your plan of study next year, and a description of your research, writing, and/or digital humanities skills and experience.
- Proof of Institutional Review Board approval or faculty certification that the project is not subject to IRB approval.
