IHRC Fellowship Applications Due March 31, 2025
Graduate students considering funding opportunities for the next academic year should check out the 2025-2026 fellowships for University of Minnesota graduate students through the Immigration History Research Center (IHRC). The IHRC promotes interdisciplinary research on migration, immigration, race, and ethnicity in the U.S. and the world; documents immigrant and refugee experiences, especially in the U.S.; and supports public programming and community engagement efforts that connect U.S. immigration history research to contemporary issues and communities. Our fellowships play an important role in our mission to train the next generation of immigration specialists, and we have been proud to support graduate students from a wide range of disciplines in past years.
Some of these academic year fellowships require that the fellow conduct research in the collections of the Immigration History Research Center Archives (IHRCA). These Archives are national in scope and rank among the world’s most important for documenting North American immigration and diaspora history.
Applicants' research interests must be related to global migration and/or immigration, race and ethnicity in the US, refugee resettlement, immigration law and politics, ethnic organizations, identity, arts, folklore, gender, journalism, literature, or other related topics.
IHRC Graduate Fellowships are 50% appointments and provide a stipend of $11,000 per semester, full tuition support for up to 14 graduate credits per semester, and subsidized health insurance through the Graduate Assistant Health Plan. In addition to a stipend and fees allowance, a research cubicle may be available at the IHRC in Andersen Library for the duration of the fellowship period.
