After the quick switch to synchronous teaching in Zoom, new questions and challenges have emerged. One challenge language instructors face is keeping students engaged in a 50-minute session while providing opportunities for effective speaking practices. This session will provide an overview of models for facilitating student engagement, and templates for enhancing opportunities for effective speaking practice. Join Dr. Adolfo Carrillo Cabello, who has taught synchronous online classes for ten years, to learn about how highly structured worksheets can empower students to remain engaged while producing targeted language functions.

In preparation for the session, participants are encouraged to watch this short YouTube clip which is a parody of a synchronous lesson in Zoom.

Presenter: Dr. Adolfo Carrillo Cabello, CLA Language Center
