The Language Center, in partnership with the Office for Digital Accessibility, invites all faculty in departments of languages and linguistics to participate in a general session on the new Title II ruling from the Department of Justice, which sets specific digital accessibility standards for public universities. This new requirement is crucial for educational content across disciplines, especially in world language programs that present unique accessibility challenges.

A team from the Office for Digital Accessibility will provide practical guidance and resources, so you can feel confident and supported in this transition. Join us to learn about steps that you can take to ensure your teaching materials are accessible, compliant, and engaging for all students.

Goals of the Session:

  • Understand the significance of the new Title II ruling and its impact on digital content, with a special focus on world language programs.
  • Familiarize yourself with the primary accessibility standards through practical examples of non-compliant vs. compliant materials.
  • Recognize the specific requirements and unique challenges of digital learning materials in world language instruction.

We’ll also discuss tools and reports available to identify and track areas in need of updates, such as alt text and color contrast.

We encourage all faculty working with language in any capacity to join this collaborative effort to create accessible and inclusive learning environments.
