This session will focus on using digital tools and technology to enhance accessibility and engagement in language learning. Discover how to interweave principles of accessible design into your course materials and new technology to address the challenges faced by diverse learners. You’ll leave with a personalized action plan for meeting the new digital accessibility requirements and insights into time-saving resources for streamlining and sustaining your accessibility improvements.
Participants are encouraged to bring their own devices (e.g., laptop, tablet). A light lunch will be provided for in-person attendees who register in advance.
Presenters

Spanish professor at Des Moines Area Community College in Ankeny, Iowa, where she has taught for nearly 20 years. Her professional interests center around effective teaching with technology, enhancing engagement through Universal Design for Learning, project-based language learning, and developing languages for specific purposes courses. Her background working with learners of diverse backgrounds and abilities has motivated her to find better ways to share her passion for language learning with others. She holds Master’s degrees in Applied Spanish Linguistics and TESOL and is pursuing a Ph.D. in Applied Linguistics and Technology.

Language and Technology Faculty Specialist at the Center for Language & Technology at the University of Hawai‘i at Mānoa. She has over 15 years of experience teaching Spanish and Portuguese at the university level. She holds a BA in Latin American Studies, an MA in Second Language Studies with a concentration in Language Teaching, and a PhD in Learning Design and Technology. Some of her professional interests include language acquisition and teaching, project-based learning, language technologies, social justice, and instructional design.
