Peyton Deal starts role as Office Manager and Technical Assistant
The Language Center and the Institute of Linguistics are pleased to announce that the units have completed the search for a new Office Manager and Technical Assistant, and that new hire, Peyton Deal, has joined the administrative hub. Below is a short biography provided by Peyton.
Hello! I’ve always been a lover of languages and Linguistics, writing constructed languages and secret codes even when I was little. I grew up in small-town Minnesota, where reading and writing were my primary hobbies. I attended undergrad at New York University (NYU) in NYC, originally studying English and American Literature. When I took my first intro course in Linguistics, I was hooked. Not long after, I switched majors and eventually graduated with a BA in Linguistics. After college, I spent a year working with a Canadian startup named CultureFoundry, which aimed to develop a language-learning app for Ojibwe with text-to-speech and speech-to-text capabilities and to provide these learning tools to Canadian primary students, giving students of the language a powerful new tool to aid in the language-learning process. After working with CultureFoundry, I attended grad school at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst, where I studied Linguistics. I graduated with a Master’s degree. Soon after, I moved back to Minnesota to be closer to friends and family. I look forward to meeting everyone and getting to know you all!
