A New Open Educational Resource

Amanda Dalola, director of the Language Center, and faculty in Linguistics, and Sabrina Fluegel, PhD candidate in Spanish & Portuguese, are excited to announce PromptEd: AI prompts for language educators, a new Open Educational Resource (OER) crafted to empower language educators with high-quality prompts, ready to use with AI chatbots!

Targeting a range of skills and genres, the ready-made, copy-pasteable prompts engage learners through meaningful one-on-one interactions with a chatbot by prompting tasks and scenarios that develop language skills and intercultural awareness in fun and interactive ways. To facilitate their use, each prompt has been tested and optimized for efficiency on ChatGPT 4.0 and tagged for easy retrieval in the database by target skill, ACTFL proficiency level, and language competence(s).

Users of the database are encouraged to adapt and personalize the prompts for their own uses and languages, and to contribute back to the growing database by sharing prompts they’ve innovated and found to be successful in their own learning communities.

Want to learn more about how the database was made and how to use it? Watch the recording of Amanda and Sabrina’s recent CARLA talk: Unleashing AI chatbots for language teaching and learning

This project was supported by the CARLA Graduate Research Assistant Program.
