Farewell to Language Center Student Team Members

At the end of 2019, a few members of the Language Center undergraduate staff moved on to new adventures. Please join us in thanking them for their contributions, and wishing them well. We are sorry to see them go!

  • Sophie Gray: has been working at the Language Center since September 2016 starting in the multimedia lab and main office. She will graduate with a BA in Asian and Middle Eastern Studies with a Chinese focus and a public health minor. During her time at the U besides working at the LC, she's also participated in the Chinese Flagship Program, studying abroad in Taipei in 2018 and Xi'an in 2019. Sophie will be starting her capstone year in Nanjing, China this February, spending a semester taking classes relating to marketing and digital media at Nanjing University and completing an internship related to digital media in Shanghai in the fall. Sophie's career interests are digital media, marketing, and multimedia design. After completing her capstone year, she hopes to return to China to go to graduate school for marketing and digital media design.

  • Nhu Le: started working at the Language Center in September of 2018 as an Administrative and Student Support Assistant. Currently, a sophomore majoring in Marketing and International Business, Nhu will be fulfilling her major classes for International Business in Japan during the Spring 2020 semester. She will be attending Hitotsubashi University, a college in the suburbs about an hour away from central Tokyo. While in Japan, she hopes to learn more about the culture and to improve her Japanese speaking skills!

  • Megan Schley: worked at the Language Center as the TandemPlus Assistant since fall 2017. During her time with the program, she was successful in encouraging many students and community members to join and seek language partners and helped support both the Thursday evening CLIC Chinese-English immersion sessions and many Class-to-Class TandemPlus exchanges. Megan was also responsible for developing the English Conversation Hour, popular among TandemPlus participants. In Fall 2019, she expanded her contributions to the Language Center by taking on shifts with the Main Office and Multimedia Lab in addition to her TandemPlus duties. Megan greatly enjoyed her time at LC, as it facilitated her language-nerd tendencies. Megan will be graduating in Spring 2020 with a BA in German, Scandinavian, and Dutch Studies, with a German emphasis. After graduation, she plans on learning as many languages as possible, traveling the world, and working to make it a better place, presumably with a nonprofit organization. Her faithful companion, Sarge, will of course travel with her.

  • Sara Thomas: began working at the Language Center in January 2019, as an Administrative and Student Support Assistant. With her Macedonian speaking abilities, she took up an additional position with Testing, assisting with office work in Jones 137 and proctoring LPE exams, as well as assessing Macedonian, Serbian, and Bosnian exams. Sara graduated this December with a BA, double majoring in English and Asian and Middle Eastern Studies, with a focus in Korean. She also worked as a Teaching Assistant in the Asian and Middle Eastern Studies department for Beginning Korean. Her career interests are in education, communication, translation, and editing.
