Inclusive Engagement: Partnering with the Disability Community is a two-part asynchronous workshop for University of Minnesota partners to foster ethical and meaningful collaborations with disability communities. Participants will learn best practices for outreach, create access statements, and develop an action plan for inclusive engagement. The workshop includes an introductory video, hands-on exercises, and resources on accessibility and equitable collaboration.

Part 1: Accessible Communication & Access Statements

Video access available on April 28

In Workshop Part 1, participants will explore best practices for outreach and addressing common accessibility barriers in communication, with resources provided on digital accessibility and hybrid meeting best practices. The session also includes hands-on guidance for drafting and refining access statements.

Part 2: Building an Action Plan

Video access available on May 5

Building on Part 1, this session focuses on developing a concrete action plan for engagement. Participants will identify key partners, assess available resources, and outline a strategy that includes project goals, accessibility planning, and non-hierarchical decision-making. Through guided exercises, attendees will leave with a clear, actionable framework for fostering meaningful collaborations with disability communities.

This asynchronous workshop is part of the Liberal Arts Engagement Hub's Collaborative Learning for Change workshop series. As always, Hub workshops are free and open to the public. Please contact [email protected] with any questions or access needs.
