CMS Digital Talk and Aris Lecture: Sheila Bonde (Christopher Chan and Michelle Ma Professor of the History of Art, Brown University)

In this talk, Sheila Bonde explores the ways in which sensory experiences were critical to medieval monastic life. Focusing on the abbey of Saint-Jean-des-Vignes in Soissons, France, she will present work-in-progress from a new digital book on the abbey.  The talk will feature new CAD reconstructions reimagining the three-dimensional contours of lost abbey spaces, and will examine new digital strategies for conveying the evanescent phenomenological aspects of medieval monastic experience, particularly of sound and silence.
