Drum Majors

The drum major is the heartbeat of the University of Minnesota Marching Band. The drum major wears many hats - musician, conductor, leader, performer, and role model for the Marching Band community.

Drum Major Chamberlain Gregg

Chamberlain Gregg is from Minneapolis, Minnesota, where he graduated from Edina High School. He has been involved in Gymnastics, Circus, and Track and Field, but dedicated most of his time in high school to Concert, Jazz, and Marching Band. It was from the EHS Marching Band that he found his passion for band and for leadership, where he eventually lead the band as one of the Drum Majors during his senior year.

Chamberlain is in the College of Science and Engineering, where he is majoring in Industrial and Systems Engineering and minoring in Management. Once graduated, he hopes to land a job in IE and to find time to travel more. Regardless of where his degree takes him, he plans to stay very connected with Minnesota and with the band. In his free time, he enjoys 3D printing, cliff jumping, swimming, and spending time out in the sun.

Before becoming Drum Major, Chamberlain was a trumpet player for the University of Minnesota Marching Band for two years, where he grew his passion and understanding for the band, and appreciation of all its members. As Drum Major, he hopes to lead the band to new experiences, connect more with the community, and strengthen an environment that everyone can grow as band members and as people.

These band members took great pride in leading one of the finest marching bands in the nation. The band has had 62 drum majors, including 5-year drum majors George Aagaard (1931–35), Jim Wetherbee (1949–53), Richard Johnson (1961–1965), Jim Mitchell (1966–1970), and Kirk Juergens (1987–1991).
