Drum Majors

The drum major is the heartbeat of the University of Minnesota Marching Band. The drum major wears many hats - musician, conductor, leader, performer, and role model for the Marching Band community.

Drum Major Tommy Greco

Tommy Greco is from Lake Zurich, Illinois, which is a northwest suburb of Chicago.  Tommy's love for band really took off when he joined the Lake Zurich High School Marching band as an Alto Saxophone player in 2011.  In high school, he was apart of the Lake Zurich Golf Team, National Honor Society, and was heavily involved in Concert Bands and Jazz Ensembles.  During his time in high school marching band, Tommy was the section leader of the Alto Saxophone section as a Junior and eventually became one of the two Senior Drum Majors for the band during his Senior year.

Tommy is majoring in Statistics with a minor in Sport Management in the College of Liberal Arts, in hopes of potentially working in the front office of a Professional Sports Team.  In his free time, Tommy has a strong passion for the game of golf and has been playing ever since he was nine years old.  In addition to playing golf, Tommy has worked at a golf course every summer for the past six years and was lucky enough to receive the Chick Evans Caddie Scholarship for his time at the golf course.

For the past two years, Tommy has been apart of the Alto Saxophone section for the University of Minnesota Marching band and was a section leader for Season 125.  From the tremendous friends and companions he has made through out his two years in the Pride of Minnesota, this has created a passion and drive that Tommy uses to help the band be successful in all that they do.  As Drum Major, this passion is deeper than ever in the hopes of providing everybody the greatest possible experience with their time in the University of Minnesota Marching Band.

These band members took great pride in leading one of the finest marching bands in the nation. The band has had 62 drum majors, including 5-year drum majors George Aagaard (1931–35), Jim Wetherbee (1949–53), Richard Johnson (1961–1965), Jim Mitchell (1966–1970), and Kirk Juergens (1987–1991).
