The University of Minnesota is pleased to announce that its community has joined a2ru, the Alliance for the Arts in Research Universities. a2ru is a partnership of colleges and universities dedicated to transforming higher education by promoting arts-integrative research, curricula, programs, and creative practices that connect the arts, sciences, and other disciplines. Together, its members believe that academic disciplines are best and most impactful when they are free to experiment within and across their boundaries. Any person with an UMN email address is invited to become a member of a2ru at no additional cost.

“a2ru is not just for artists,” writes Patrick Warfield, Director of the School of Music, “it is for every scientist, researcher, teacher, and creative practitioner who believes in the power of interdisciplinary research.” He goes on to say, “I am particularly proud that the U is joining this team of leading research universities in recognizing that the arts can impact everything from climate research to medical interventions; from robotics to artificial intelligence. This network of scholars and students will further lift up the incredible work already being done here at the U.”

Those interested in becoming more involved and active in the network are invited to register for the 2025 a2ru Conference, taking place October 23 - 25, 2025, at the University of Wisconsin – Madison. Registration is now open.
