Maria Mannone

Maria Mannone (PhD 2017, composition, student of Alex Lubet) gave a composition workshop titled "Natural and Mathematical Forms and Transformations in Music" at the Alba Music Festival in Alba (Cuneo), Italy on May 29, 2019. Founded in 2004, the Alba Music Festival has brought hundreds of music enthusiasts to its acclaimed concerts in Piedmont, a beautiful region of Northern Italy.

Mannone also created and taught the course Sounds, Gestures, Diagrams at the Music Conservatory of Palermo, Italy, based on her interdisciplinary research. After theoretical lessons, students composed pieces based on the shape of Klein’s bottle. The project has been presented at the Conservatory on Pi Day, and at the Department of Mathematics of the University, during the satellite event of the international conference PSSL 105. The final concert was held on May 31, featuring works by Marco Barilà, Mattia Camuti, Biagio Genco, Massimiliano Seggio, and Massimiliano Vizzini. In April, Mannone gave a master class at the Conservatory of Livorno. The students investigated the structures of three trees and mapped them into musical parameters.
