Alumna Sondra Wieland Howe Presents on Ladies Brass Bands and More

Sondra Wieland Howe (PhD, 1988, music education, student of Chad Furman; MA, 1985, musicology, student of Donna Cardamone-Jackson) published a chapter on “American Music in Meiji Era Japan” in Vanakyula bunka to gendai shakai (Vernacular Culture and Modern Society), ed. Keiko Wells (Kyoto: Shibunkaku Press, 2018), pp. 238-50. In March 2018, she presented papers on “Ladies Brass Bands in the Midwest, 1900-1920” at the Society for American Music in Kansas City and “Ladies Brass Bands in Minnesota and Wisconsin, 1890-1925” at the National Association for Music Education in Atlanta.
