The School of Music is thrilled to announce that Director of Bands Dr. Emily Threinen will have the honor of guest conducting Sweet Chariot by Carlos Simon with the U.S. Army Band "Pershing's Own." The concert will take place at the Midwest Clinic in Chicago on Wednesday, December 17, at 7:30 pm in room W375AB.

“The Midwest Clinic is always a professional highlight of the year; I have attended and participated in all but one since 1997,” Threinen remarked. “This year will be a very special Midwest Clinic for me personally, as I will be guest conducting one of our nation's most prominent ensembles, The U.S. Army Band, "Pershing's Own" on Carlos Simon's beautiful and powerful piece, Sweet Chariot. I had the distinct pleasure to work with the U.S. Army Band as a conducting clinician in the summer of 2023 for their Conductors Workshop, and the opportunity to collaborate again will be a thrill! I am deeply grateful to Colonel Bruce R. Pulver for the invitation."

The Midwest Clinic, taking place in Chicago December 17 - 19, is one of the largest conferences in the United States for musicians and music educators with approximately 18,000 participants annually. The conference began in 1946 and is a premier global destination for professional development in the industry.

“All of us in the School of Music are so proud of Dr. Threinen,” writes Patrick Warfield, Director of the School of Music. “This honor recognizes her position at the top of the wind conducting world, and I know audiences at Midwest will be thrilled hearing her leadership of this incredible work.”

Attendees can catch the School of Music exhibiting at booth 1539 during the Midwest Clinic! Threinen will also host a meet and greet at the SoM booth on Friday, December 19, from 10:30 to noon at booth 1539.
