Professor Dean Billmeyer's CD "Straube Plays Bach" to be Released in September

Dean Billmeyer

Dean Billmeyer’s (organ) double CD entitled Straube Plays Bach is scheduled for release on the Rondeau label (Leipzig, Germany), as well as on iTunes and Naxos in September 2018. Karl Straube, organist of the Leipzig, prepared ten of Bach’s most “iconic” works for publication in 1913. The extensive performance instructions in this volume represent a unique documentation of late-Romantic German performance practice in the symphonic style. Billmeyer’s recording is the first ever of all ten works in this edition. Billmeyer recorded the Bach works in 2017 on two historic organs built by Wilhelm Sauer in 1904 (Leipzig, Michaeliskirche) and 1909 (Bad Salzungen, Stadtkirche). Billmeyer’s project is supported by a Single Semester Leave, Imagine Fund Grant, and Grant in Aid of Research, Artistry, and Scholarship.
