While on sabbatical in Costa Rica researching the traditional marimba of the country, ​​​Fernando Meza (percussion) traveled to Chicago as one of three judges of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra's Young Artists Competition. Students specializing in winds, brass, and percussion competed for a chance to perform as soloists with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra next season.
