Remembering Alumnus Rush Williams

Rush Williams

It's with great sadness that we share the news that Rush Williams (MM 2004, voice) passed away on December 21, 2018, after a valiant battle with cancer. Our thoughts are with his family and friends at this time. A celebration of his life will take place in New York City on Saturday, April 13 at 6:30 pm at Middle Collegiate Church (112 2nd Ave, New York, NY) in the East Village.

Williams is survived by his husband, alumnus Michael Heaston (MM 2004, collaborative piano/coaching), who worked to establish the Dr. Rush C. Williams Award for Diversity and Inclusion at University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center, where Williams received his PhD and also served as co-chief resident. This annual award will be bestowed upon a student graduating from the program. The recipient will exhibit understanding, commitment, and passion for diversity and inclusiveness as demonstrated through clinical and research interests, building bridges between persons of different backgrounds, and engaging with the graduate student body and the community at large to promote a healthy dialogue about inclusiveness, fairness, and compassion for all individuals.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center, P.O. Box 910888, Dallas, TX 75391-0888 or online at engage.utsouthwestern.edu to support the Dr. Rush C. Williams Award for Diversity and Inclusion.
