After nearly eleven years of dedication and support of the School of Music, Marketing and Enrollment Manager Anabel Njoes leaves the University of Minnesota and College of Liberal Arts.

Njoes joined the School of Music in 2011 as a part-time Recruitment Coordinator. In the decade since, her efforts have spanned admissions and student services, community engagement, and marketing and communications. “Anabel’s impact has been significant, across strategic programming, planning and partnerships on a grand scale; continuous process improvements across a range of activities; expansion of social media and alumni outreach; and strengthening collaboration and coordination with other CLA and University leadership colleagues,” says Interim Director Gwendolyn Freed.

One of Njoes’ favorite memories is working with all the students who helped with the annual School of Music audition and interview days. “Those are really big days for everyone involved, for auditioning students, their parents, and our faculty. Our student ambassadors who welcome prospective students and families turn the events into something quite magical.”

As for advice for incoming auditioning students, Njoes shares, “I think it’s important to realize that you don’t even necessarily need to audition—you can just start right up through the BA with Academic Emphasis or the World Music Minor.” Njoes has seen students explore interdisciplinary areas with their own interests in film-scoring, traditional music, songwriting, and even linguistics and go on to fields in music as well as digital media, cognitive science, and even law and business.

After leaving the School of Music, Njoes plans to create a marketing plan for her husband’s real estate business before joining Compute North as a Media & Community Relations Specialist. Compute North owns and operates TIER 0™ data centers across the U.S. focused on cryptocurrency mining and high performance computing and was recently named the number one fastest growing private company in the Twin Cities Metro-Area by Minneapolis/St. Paul Business Journal.
