Ross Larson

Ross Larson (piano, student of Paul Shaw/Carlson School of Management, BSB finance) just completed his award of a Summer 2018 Internship at Steinway & Sons in New York City. Under the direction of Steinway’s Vice President of Finance for the Americas John Seliga, Larson served in the company’s department of finance and accounting where he participated in managing and overseeing the Boston/Essex rental program, new retail sales, application of retail/wholesale/institutional payments, vendor payables, visual mapping of Steinway processes, and more.

While at Steinway, Larson also assisted in implementing new initiatives pertaining to digitization, process improvement, and the transition of vestigial positions between Steinway-owned subsidiaries. His non-occupational opportunities at Steinway included practicing in the factory selection rooms, playing a Steinway Fibonacci Model B, and playing on the one-of-a-kind Pictures at an Exhibition Model D, S/N 600,000.

Capping his summer activities, Larson was featured in a concert series in Grand Rapids, Minnesota on August 21, 2018 that highlighted college music students with Northern Minnesota roots. Together with St. Olaf violinist Olivia Skaja, Larson performed solo and chamber works by Liszt, Wieniawski, and Franck. For this year’s performance, his second appearance in the series, Larson was awarded a scholarship by the organizing committee to continue his studies at the University of Minnesota.
