Zabala, Kim, and Bakken Trio touring "Nadia" across Minnesota

School of Music Professor Adriana Zabala, soprano, star of upcoming tour "Nadia"

School of Music Associate Professor of Voice Adriana Zabala, soprano, will star as Nadia Boulanger this weekend in a special tour of "Nadia" across Minnesota. Joining Zabala in the performance will be School of Music Director Michael Kim on piano, Bakken Trio violinist Stephanie Arado, and "Nadia" playwright Mina Fisher on cello. The performances take place on January 11 at 7:30 pm in Pequot Lakes, MN (Greater Lakes Performing Arts), January 12 at 2 pm in Grand Rapids, MN (The Myles Reif Performing Arts Center), and January 14 at 7:30 pm in Duluth, MN (Mitchell Auditorium, The College of St. Scholastica).

Fisher wrote "Nadia" about legendary 20th century French composer and teacher Nadia Boulanger. Boulanger taught several famous composers in her career, including Phillip Glass and Quincy Jones. It explores the entirety of Boulanger's life, how students were drawn to her teaching style, and showcases music that inspired her compositions. The show runs for approximately 80 minutes, featuring Zabala's unique singing talents in the one-act performance.

Classical MPR recently shared this upcoming tour and the history behind the project as a Classical Music Feature story. Tickets for the performances can be found at the venue websites below.
