Welcome to CLA Advising!
Welcome to the 2017-2018 Academic Year in the College of Liberal Arts!
Your Academic Advisor is here for you. If you’re not sure where to turn for help or a resource, your academic advisor is a great place to start. Advising in the College of Liberal Arts supports a learning partnership between you and your academic advisor. Your advisor’s role is to help you identify educational and professional goals that align with your interests, strengths, and values to assist you in creating academic and experiential action plans to help you achieve your goals.
Our academic advising model can help guide you through your academic journey in CLA:

You should plan to meet with your advisor in a scheduled appointment at least once each semester. You can schedule online at z.umn.edu/claappt. The appointments are 30 minutes long and you can make the most of that time by preparing.
Before the appointment:
Review your APAS report to review your degree progress. Consider what you want to take in the next semester or year and bring that information with you to the appointment.
- Write down your questions in advance and bring them with you to the appointment.
- Be prepared to discuss what is going well for you as well as any challenges you are encountering on campus. If you feel that you need to change direction, be prepared to share your thoughts about that.
Each advising office also offers drop-in advising hours for quick questions. If you need help locating your advising office or if you are having difficulty scheduling an appointment, please call 612-625-2020 and we will help you out.
