Hometown: Menomonee Falls, WI

Major: Studies in Cinema & Media Culture

Which CLA class or professor has had the biggest impact on you? Why?

The classes I took with Dawn Schot Klotzbach in the communication studies department. In COMM 3201 - Introduction to Electronic Media Production, we worked in a live TV studio, and I was the director of a 30-minute SNL-style sketch show, which was chaotic and thrilling. In COMM 4204 - Producing for Television: Theory and Practice, I wrote and directed a 20-minute TV pilot about a company that pays people to record their dreams. These classes threw me headfirst into media production and filmmaking. They gave me a space to learn by doing and helped me find my creative voice.

Tell us about a class you still think a lot about.

I still think a lot about the cinema theory classes I took with Professor Keya Ganguly, including CSCL 3210 - Cinema and Ideology and CSCL 3211 - Global & Transnational Cinemas. Professor Ganguly was born in India, and she helped me see the world from a global perspective. She introduced me to a wide range of international cinema and challenged me to analyze films through social and political contexts.

What is one aspect of your major or minor that has surprised you? What do you wish more people understood about what you study?

My homework is not just watching movies. It is also reading about movies.

What's next for you? What are your post-graduation plans?

I’m going to make a documentary about the campus turkeys.

If you could be any member on a TV show, who would you be?

Larry David.
