From Minneapolis to the 'Globe'
Originally from Jacksonville, Florida, JuCoby Johnson came to Minneapolis to be part of the elite University of Minnesota/Guthrie Theater BFA Actor Training Program. Over the past four years, he has taken classes as part of a cohort of student actors, and trained with esteemed University faculty and Guthrie Theater staff.
“My study abroad experience has shown me how valuable the theatre is in terms of building a community. I hope to use these skills in the future to bring people together and create new and diverse theatre.” Last year Johnson went abroad with a class to study at Shakespeare’s Globe Theatre in London. He took voice, movement, and acting classes and eventually got to perform on the Globe stage. “As an actor being heavily trained in classical text, the chance to perform on that stage was a dream come true,” he says.
Johnson was one of the students featured this past spring at Bright Lights, a program showcasing CLA's award-winning undergraduates and their varied creative, academic, and applied experiences.
