Undergraduate Scholarship Recipents
The Department of Philosophy would like to congratulate this year’s winners of our undergraduate scholarships for the 2026–27 academic year: Andrew Hollingsworth, Nerea Vidal Arrieta, Kenna Wallace, and Samuel Young. The Cattron/Woodbridge Undergraduate Major Scholarship, the Dr. Eldon L. and Helen H. Stevens Undergraduate Scholarship, and the Dicken Undergraduate Scholarship have been made possible by the generous support of donors and recognize outstanding philosophy students. Here is some more information about our scholarship winners:
Andrew Hollingsworth
awarded Stevens Scholarship
Andrew Hollingsworth is originally from Grandview, Washington. He is interested in aesthetics and how aesthetic experiences relate to ethics and morality. In his spare time, Andrew likes to read, play cribbage, and talk endlessly with his friends. After graduation, he hopes to attend law school.
Nerea Vidal Arrieta
awarded Cattron/Woodbridge scholarship
My name is Nerea, and although I’m from Spain, I came to the United States to pursue a triple major in philosophy, psychology, and political science. I’m particularly interested in existentialism and applied philosophy, especially the movements centered in Europe. I enjoy writing and, ultimately, learning about the complexity of human beings, so I hope to earn a Ph.D. in philosophy.
Kenna Wallace
awarded Stevens Scholarship
My name is Kenna Wallace, and I have spent much of my life in and around Ellsworth, Wisconsin. I am especially interested in ancient philosophy, particularly the ways political climates and historical events shaped the ideas of influential philosophers. In my free time, I enjoy watching the Milwaukee Brewers, and after graduation, I hope to pursue a career in teaching.
Samuel Young
awarded Dicken and Cattron/Woodbridge Scholarships
Sam Young is from Stillwater, Minnesota. He is primarily interested in the philosophy of well-being and the question of how to live a good life. In his spare time, Sam likes to volunteer with the Special Olympics club at UMN. After graduation, Sam hopes to continue studying philosophy through a PhD program.
