PhD Alumni Awards Summer 2024
We are proud of the hard work of our PhD alumni and recognize the ways in which they have been awarded for their dedication to the field.
Award: Okin-Young Award in Feminist Theory for Red Roots of Solidarity: Paula Gunn Allen and the Queer Audiences of Intellectual Sovereignty (University of Chicago). The Okin-Young Award recognizes the best paper on feminist theory published in an English language academic journal during the past calendar year.
Awarded by: American Political Science Association (APSA) Women, Gender, and Politics Research Section; Foundations of Political Theory; and the Women's Caucus for Political Science.
Award: Excellence in Research Innovation Award. The innovation in research award recognizes a faculty member whose work shifts existing paradigms, uses novel methodologies, or applies existing methodologies in new ways toward the goal of improving public health.
Awarded by: Boston University School of Public Health.
Award: Do Award. The Do Award is presented to an individual who has created extensive opportunities for others toward community building and making connections through programs, policies, and/or spaces, honoring the experiences of various populations and reflecting the School of Public Health core purpose of sparking social change, fostering a sense of belonging, and building relationships across differences.

Award: LGBTQ+ Politics Best Book Award for Terms of Exclusion: Rightful Citizenship Claims and Construction of LGBT Political Identity (Oxford University Press). The LGBTQ+ Politics Best Book Award is given annually to a book published in the preceding calendar year that addresses LGBTQ+ politics, broadly defined.
Awarded by: American Political Science Association (APSA) Sexuality and Politics Section.
Award: Gladys M. Kammerer Award for Equality Unfulfilled: How Title IX's Policy Design Undermines Change to College Sports (Cambridge University Press), co-written with James Druckman. The Kammerer Award honors the best book published in the field of US national policy.
Awarded by: American Political Science Association (APSA).
Award: Society of Professors of Education Outstanding Book Award for Equality Unfulfilled. The Outstanding Book Award acknowledges and honors the year's best book-length publication in education research and development.
Awarded by: American Educational Research Association (AERA).
Award: Best First Book Award for Remapping Sovereignty: Decolonization and Self-Determination in North American Indigenous Political Thought (University of Chicago). The First Book Award is given for a first book by a scholar in the early stages of their career in the area of political theory or political philosophy.
