Anna Overall is a senior majoring in political science with a minor in Spanish. Read the below Q&A to learn more about her and her experience as a political science student.
Where is your hometown?
St. Louis Park, MN.
Why did you choose to study political science?
I want to be an attorney. I am also fascinated by political theory and international relations. I chose this major because it matched my interests in a way no other major could. I knew it would help me find unique opportunities for research and law.
What has been your favorite POL course at the University of Minnesota?
I can't pick! POL 3423: Politics of Disruption: Violence and Its Alternatives with Professor Anoop Sarbahi, POL 3319: Education and the American Dream with Professor Scott Abernathy, and POL 3476: Chinese Politics: History and Contemporary Issues with Professor Kevin Luo.
What advice would you give to prospective political science students?
Do all the readings! Even if you have to skim on a busy week. Seek out professors with similar interests. Network within the major.
What do you hope to do after graduation? How has studying political science prepared you?
I plan to take a gap year or two, then head to law school! I have hopes to come back to academia in the future after practicing law.
