McNair Scholars

The federally funded TRIO McNair Scholars Program seeks to increase doctoral program application, matriculation, and degree attainment by underrepresented and first-generation college students. Current undergraduate students can read more about the program and how to apply on their webpage.

We welcome current and past McNair Scholars to learn more about our PhD program and contact us with questions.

Graduate Application Fee Waiver Requests

The Department of Psychology has modest funds to pay the application fee for a limited number of competitive applicants who would be unable to apply, or would experience significant hardship, without financial assistance. Consult the Application Fee section of our Application Checklist for more information and to access the request form. This opportunity is open to all eligible applicants regardless of race, sex, religion, national origin, age, disability, sexual orientation, gender identity, or other protected characteristic (until funds for the admissions cycle have been exhausted).

McNair Summer Visitation Program

During the summer, the Graduate School Diversity Office (GSDO), in collaboration with the Graduate School, invites McNair Scholars to the McNair Summer Visitation Program on the Twin Cities campus. The Department of Psychology partners with the GSDO to provide a departmental session when we receive sufficient advance notice and as staff and faculty availability allow. We welcome McNair Scholars to sign up for one of our Virtual Admissions Information Sessions, offered monthly in May through October annually. These sessions are open to all regardless of race, sex, religion, national origin, age, disability, sexual orientation, gender identity, or other protected characteristic.
