Fletcher Weighs In on the Supernatural

Believe it or not, ghost hunting is a true hobby and belief for some. But, what does science have to say about the supernatural? In a Star Tribune article titled, “What is the most haunted place in Minnesota?,” Randy Fletcher, PhD, associate professor in the Department of Psychology at the University of Minnesota, weighs in on the matter.Fletcher states that science can never prove that ghosts do not exist, however many have tried to prove their existence and failed. Because of this, Fletcher has a hard time believing ghosts are real and sees ghost hunting as an exercise in confirmation bias. What does that mean? If you believe in ghosts and go looking you’ll find them in the mundane occurrences or creepy coincidences.
