6. Fall 2021 - EPSY 5121: Debugging Failure in Learning (3 credits)

The learning process is anything but a smooth, linear event. Moments of uncertainty, substantive impasses, and stretches of confusion are frequent parts of the learning experience. In some situations, these moments serve as springboards for growth and learning. In other situations, they steer students away from learning. This course investigates the double-edged potential of failure to catalyze and thwart learning. Learn more.

EPSY 5121 is to be determined on location/remote, but is on Wednesdays from 2:00 - 5:00 pm

Instructor: David DeLiema

Research assistants needed for an online study (for credit or volunteer). Positions open for Summer and Fall 2021. Preference is given to those that can be available for both terms. My dissertation is focused on the psychophysiology of social evaluation. A component of this research concerns the role of race and gender in social interactions. As such, we are seeking, in particular, female RAs of color to facilitate some aspects of the study design. All work will be able to be completed virtually, provided some basic requirements, such as having a quiet, private place to work and stable internet connection. Individuals involved in data collection must have afternoon availability. One position is available for delivering study materials (car required; mileage will be reimbursed). Roles (each ~6hrs/week or 2 credits) Note: Because this experiment investigates the role of race and gender, female-identifying RAs of color are needed for several of the available positions, in order to ensure the scientific validity of findings. Please reach out to me with any questions. • 2 positions, Black female-identifying student: data collection and participant interaction • 1 position, Asian female-identifying student: data collection and participant interaction • 1 position(s), no demographic requirements: scheduling, data processing, delivery Any interested applicants may email Keira Leneman at lenem001@umn.edu to get more information about the study, roles, and application.
