2. Association of Black Psychology Students Officer Application

Looking to join a new student group and get involved on campus? Look no further because the Association of Black Psychology Students is currently in the process of finding new officers to help lead the organization for the 2019-2020 school year. The organization's mission is to support the academic, social, and career needs of students of African descent in psychology and related disciplines. This Association gives students of African descent an opportunity to develop a professional network geared towards social sciences. The deadline to fill out the application is Friday, May 31st. Courses of Interest

3. PSY 4960: Current Issues in Diversity Science (3 credits - Elective)

This is an advanced topics course for undergraduate students interested in research, theory, history, and practice related to psychological perspectives in Diversity Science. Diversity Science broadly pertains to understanding causes, consequences, and correlates of human group-based variations, in terms of race, ethnicity, gender, and the like. Students will learn how to adopt a scientific, analytic perspective on current issues and debates related to diversity within both academic research and popular culture. This course will consist of lecture, discussion, and a substantial amount of hands-on learning through the use and analysis of relevant research data. Prior or concurrent enrollment in PSY 3301: Introduction to Cultural Psychology is suggested but not required. Completion of PSY 3801 and PSY 3001W strongly recommended but not required.

4. PSY 3960: Careers in Psychology (1 credit - Elective)

Interested in exploring the vast career options in the field of Psychology? This fall's PSY 3960 course is an introduction to different career paths associated with an undergraduate degree in psychology (BA or BS). Students will gain an understanding of the major strengths and skills developed through the study in psychology and how those strengths and skills can be applied in many different career settings. Emphasis will be placed both on careers that require further schooling (e.g., Ph.D., Master's) and careers that do not. The course format will feature guest speakers from a variety of careers and a final project in which the students conduct an in-depth investigation of a career path of their choice.

5. App Jam

This jam session will give students a chance to work on their application for a health professional programs in one of the central application services (AMCAS, PharmCAS, etc.) while getting guidance and support from their fellow students and Pre-Health Student Resource Center counselors. Research

7. Undergraduate Research Opportunities Program Applications for Fall 2019

The Undergraduate Research Opportunities Program has added another opportunity for students to submit an application to be funded for research in Fall 2019. Applications will be due July 1, 2019, and here's the link for the program with further information. The Undergraduate Research Opportunities Program (UROP) provides all University of Minnesota undergraduates, regardless of college, major or discipline, the opportunity to partner with a faculty member on research, scholarly or creative project. UROP gives students a chance to explore academic and career interests, apply classroom learning to real-time research and prepare for a career or graduate school while working closely with a U of M faculty member. Students may work on a project of their own creation or take part in a faculty member’s existing project.

8. *Credit or Volunteer* Clinical Research Intern Positions Available

The Minnesota Center for Chemical and Mental Health is seeking clinical research interns for several projects. You must be able to commit to summer and fall semesters, at minimum, for 8-10 hours a week. Depending on qualifications, availability, and interest tasks include qualitative transcription and coding, recruitment for substance use disorder survey study with a community-based partner, and data entry at a mental health clinic in St. Louis Park. 9. *Credit or Volunteer* Research Lab in Psychology

A laboratory at the Minneapolis VA Health Care System is conducting a randomized clinical trial to examine the efficacy of a psychotherapy intervention in the treatment of post-traumatic stress disorder. There is an opportunity for 2 undergraduate students to become involved with this project as a Research Lab in Psychology experience. The students will learn about the assessment of trauma and evidence-based approaches to treatment to reduce symptoms and improve functioning. Students will work as a part of a research team led by a psychologist and will be involved with study recruitment activities, participant medical, psychiatric, and cognitive screening, preparation of study materials, scoring measures, and entering data. As part of the research experience, students will attend a weekly lab meeting in which topics related to the project are discussed. In addition, students will write an APA-style paper on a related topic. All research activities are conducted at the VA Health Care System. Students must be able to commute to the VA. Students will be asked to register for research credit and to commit an average of 10 hours each week. Students must become volunteers at the hospital in order to participate in this experience. 10. *Credit or Volunteer* Undergraduate Research Assistant Opportunity for this Summer

The Elison Lab for Brain and Behavioral Development is looking for undergraduate research assistants for the summer, with the possibility of continuing into the fall. The Elab focuses on behavioral and social development through the first five years of life, with many of our studies focusing on early infancy. As a research assistant in the Elab, one may expect to spend a majority of their time on data entry, coding behavioral videos, and sibsitting during visits. Elab research assistants are made up of both volunteers as well as for-credit students and the time they spend in the lab each week is flexible and can be determined by them and their supervisor. 11. *Credit or Volunteer* Research on Longitudinal Study of Resilience in Military Service Members RA Position

The Readiness and Resilience in National Guard Soldiers (RINGS) research lab, under the direction of Drs. Melissa Polusny and Drs. Christopher Erbes at the Minneapolis VA Health Care System, is looking for research assistants! The current longitudinal study examines processes contributing to resilience in military personnel. Research assistants who join the RINGS lab will receive extensive training and gain hands-on experience conducting a large cohort study that utilizes evidence-based longitudinal tracking and survey methods. Duties include: recruiting soldiers to participate and collecting baseline data at National Guard armories on Saturdays/Sundays, conducting participant outreach and follow-up calls, conducting eligibility screenings for lab visits, data entry, attending lab meetings, and assisting lab technicians with lab visits. In collaboration with Drs. Scott Sponheim, Nick Davenport, and Shmuel Lissek (co-investigators on this project), research assistants may also gain experience with the collection of electroencephalography (EEG) and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) data in conjunction with cognitive tests, interview-based assessments of symptoms, and questionnaires. This is a volunteer position and requires an 8-10 hour per week commitment. Students can receive research credit for the course PSY 4993. Preference will be given to students who are available in the summer and fall, and those able to make a multiple-semester commitment. Start date is June 2019. Successful candidates must have a valid SSN (required to work on-site at the VA). Those with experience working with veterans or the military may be given priority. Scholarships

12. Psychology Engagement Awards - Now Accepting Applications for Summer 2019

Up to two awards of $500 each will be distributed to qualified applicants each semester. These awards provide financial support to students participating in learning experiences beyond the campus and classroom environments. These experiences enable you to extend your learning into real-world settings. Summer applications are due by June 6th, 2019. Students will be notified of a decision by June 24th, 2019. 13. Sharon S. Brehm Undergraduate Psychology Scholarships

The Sharon S. Brehm Undergraduate Psychology Scholarships will recognize outstanding psychology undergraduate students who demonstrate financial need. The Brehm Scholarships will help defray the students’ direct educational costs (e.g. tuition, institutional fees, required textbooks, etc.). This funding will be available for the Spring 2020 semester. Please review eligibility requirements and how to apply on the website. The deadline is July 1st, 2019.

14. Student English Language Support for Summer

Student English Language Support is offering individual, group conversation, and walk-in consultations this summer! Multilingual students can come in to polish a cover letter or essay, ask about unfamiliar expressions, practice giving a class presentation, or work on anything else related to American English. Students can schedule an appointment or learn about our walk-in hours on the website. Scheduled consultation appointments are located in Nicholson Hall, Room 20. SELS is a free service that helps international undergraduate students improve English language skills, including reading, writing, listening, speaking, pronunciation, and intercultural communication. 16. Fairview Hospice’s Summer Medical Explorers Program

Spend your summer gaining valuable, direct patient experience and knowledge by joining Fairview Hospice’s Summer Medical Explorers program! This 8-week program is an ideal opportunity for college students who are interested in a medical career. Volunteers will be required to give at least 8 hours of service per week, which includes attending a weekly in-service (Wednesdays from 10:00 am- 11:15 am) led by medical professionals. In-services will cover a variety of topics such as Effective Communication Strategies for Dementia Patients, Physician Aid in Dying, Cultural Diversity in Death, and Music Therapy/Guided Imagery. Patients are located throughout the Twin Cities metro, Princeton, and Wyoming areas. Visit times are flexible and will be scheduled directly with the patients you visit. Space is limited to only 20 students, and applications are due by May 29th, 2019. Interested? 19. Lindahl Academic Center is Hiring Subject Tutors

The Lindahl Academic Center is hiring tutors for Summer and Fall 2019. Applicants must possess an overall cumulative GPA of 3.0, have taken and passed with an "A" or "B" in the course they want to tutor (equivalent course from other universities are okay), and capable of working flexible hours. Undergrad tutors work as few as four hours and as many as twenty hours per week and make $11 per hour. Excellent communication skills, patience, professionalism, and reliability are musts.
