Alumni Spotlight: Claire Griffin

Claire Griffin (she/her)

• Position: Clinical Implementation Specialist
• Employer: NeuroCatch, Inc.

What is your work like? What are your duties?

I lead the clinical training program at NeuroCatch. I travel to new customer locations to train them on EEG and do virtual trainings online to team doctors and technicians on how to read the EEG data. I also develop and implement our online learning management system modules, attend conferences, and take part in product development meetings.

How would you say your psychology degree has helped you with your current job?

I was glad that I took classes that were interesting to me and specialized in areas I really cared about. Intro to Cognitive Psych and Intro to Biopsych both really gave me the framework I needed to connect behavior to the brain on a neurological level. Better understanding the brain through the lens of these classes really set off my career in the way I wanted it to. Taking the opportunity to do Directed Research in Psych introduced me to neurotechnology and was truly a launching point for my career. I got real life experience in a topic that was not taught in class.

In what way has your major complemented your current job?

Neuroanatomy and the symptoms of different psychiatric illnesses. Knowing these helps my conversations with medical professionals about their patients' progress.

I have found all of my roles on LinkedIn.

What advice do you have for our current psych students and recent grads?

Network with other people in the graduate psych network on LinkedIn and see what jobs they are doing. There is so much more to your psych degree if you love learning about the brain and behavior, but are not necessarily interested in counseling, research, or graduate programs. Stay curious and take the classes that interest you the most.
