Alum Bob Pianta (PhD '86) is the recipient of the 2025 Distinguished Contributions to Research in Education Award by the American Educational Research Association (AERA).
This prestigious award honors exceptional accomplishments in educational research, aiming to publicize, motivate, encourage, and suggest models for educational research at its best.
AERA announces Pianta “a major force in educational research as an internationally recognized pre-eminent scholar of early childhood education.” His pioneering work at the University of Virginia on student-teacher interactions has profoundly influenced classroom practices both nationwide and around the globe.
