Colin DeYoung on the Strengths and Weaknesses of Traditional Personality Typology and Its Neurobiological Research

Colin DeYoung

Colin DeYoung, faculty, discusses the thriving neurobiological area of research on personalities in a BBC article. DeYoung comments that there are neurobiological parallels to traditional typologies, but he also challenges them, arguing that the tests rely on clear categorical and arbitrary cut-offs, which do not exist in the nature of personality. However, he notes that these categories can still be useful in providing a summary of the different dimensions that exist in personality.
