Beth Havercamp

We are thrilled to share that Dr. Beth Haverkamp (PhD 1989, Counseling Psychology) has been selected as the 2025 Distinguished Member by the Counselling Psychology section of the Canadian Psychological Association (CPA). This is the highest career honor awarded by the section and recognizes Dr. Haverkamp’s significant contributions to the development and advancement of counselling psychology in Canada.

Dr. Haverkamp completed her dissertation, An Investigation of the Hypothesis-Testing Behavior in Counseling Trainees, under the mentorship of Dr. Jo-Ida Hansen. Following graduation, she joined the University of British Columbia as a tenure-track faculty member in 1989, where she has continued to shape the field through her teaching, research, and leadership.

The award citation noted that her “service work as a leader in the development of counselling psychology in Canada was celebrated in the nomination package.” The citation emphasized the enduring impact of her contributions, stating that her “advocacy for and work toward counselling psychology as a subdiscipline and professional practice domain within psychology” has had lasting effects on the profession.

Please join us in congratulating Dr. Haverkamp on this well-deserved honor.
