Jessica Arend, Mirinda Morency, and Salma Ibrahim 2025 SEED Award Recipients
Three doctoral students in the Department of Psychology’s Clinical Science and Psychopathology Research (CSPR) program were awarded the 2025 Graduate and Professional SEED Award. The Scholarly Excellence in Equity and Diversity (SEED) Awards recognize underrepresented graduate, undergraduate, and professional students who have demonstrated exceptional commitment to promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion at the University of Minnesota and within the broader community. Jessica Arend, Mirinda Morency, and Salma Ibrahim were recognized for their commitment and work at the annual award ceremony on Thursday, November 13th.
Jessica Arend is a doctoral candidate in the Adult Psychopathology and Clinical Science (APCS) track, specializing in the research and treatment of psychosis.
Mirinda Morency is a doctoral candidate in the Developmental Psychopathology and Clinical Science (DPCS) track, dually enrolled in the Institute of Child Development, specializing in psychobiological mechanisms of resilience and examining how structural stressors and sociocultural assets (e.g., John Henryism) jointly shape adaptation in Black and Latino youth to advance developmentally sensitive, culturally grounded prevention.
Salma Ibrahim is a doctoral student in the Developmental Psychopathology and Clinical Science (DPCS) track, dually enrolled in the Institute of Child Development, specializing in executive function and cognitive development through a risk-and-resilience lens to inform strategies that support learning, health, and well-being in immigrant- and refugee-background children and youth facing multi-system adversities.
