Juan Del Toro’s Paper Selected as APA Editor’s Choice
We are pleased to share that faculty, Juan Del Toro’s, paper, “Ethnic/racial discrimination, school cultural socialization, and negative affect: Daily diaries reveal African American, Asian American, and Latinx adolescents’ resilience” is part of the APA Editor’s Choice.
APA Editor’s Choice papers feature the field of psychology’s most significant and influential research, bringing attention and visibility to these works.
Del Toro’s study explored how school-based cultural socialization affects adolescents' resilience to discrimination. Over two studies, researchers found that on days when racial discrimination was experienced, negative emotions were higher, especially if school-based cultural socialization was low. However, when adolescents received more cultural socialization at school, the negative impact of discrimination on their mood was reduced.
