Remembering Regents Professor Emerita Ellen Berscheid
On May 22, 2025, Ellen Berscheid, Regents Professor Emerita and distinguished faculty member of our department for over 40 years, passed away at the age of 88. Professor Berscheid was a pioneer in Social Psychology, renowned for her empirical research on relationships, which included landmark studies on physical attractiveness, love, emotions, and closeness in relationships. In addition, she was one of the first female faculty members in our department, paving the way for others who would soon follow.
