Summer 2025 Mortensen Donor Awards for Psychology Undergraduate Engagement
Congratulations to Mary Zordoky and Eddie Carlson for receiving the Summer 2025 Mortensen Donor Awards for Psychology Undergraduate Engagement. These $500 scholarship awards honor a psychology major's dedication to volunteer work and unpaid internships within the community, offering financial support to those who engage in real-world learning experiences outside the classroom.
I worked over the summer at Fairview Hospital on the East Bank of the UMN campus. I worked at the PACU (post-anesthetic care unit), where I got to work alongside nurses and surgeons, supporting their needs. It was awesome to see how everyone works as a team, and I’m thankful I got to be a part of it! Volunteering has been a priority in my life this summer, so this scholarship means a lot to me! I’m honored to be rewarded and appreciated, and it inspires me to keep volunteering!
I am a volunteer at Hennepin Healthcare. I usually greet people at the door and offer assistance to those who need help finding their way around. Eventually, I will start helping in other areas such as the psychiatric unit and/or the clinic. It helps me save so much money towards my degree and allows me to dedicate more of my time towards helping others and being an active part of my community. This scholarship will allow me to pay towards the resources I need to succeed in my future field.
