UMN Auditory Lab Engages Fairgoers with Hearing Study at 2025 Minnesota State Fair
The University of Minnesota’s Auditory Perception and Cognition Lab presented its interactive research project, “How high do you hear?” at the 2025 Minnesota State Fair in the Driven to Discover (D2D) building on August 26 and August 29.
Lab members Juraj Mesik, Lis Bogaard, Michael Phelan, Jen Lee, Charlotte Lee, Elaea Purmalietis, and Heather Kreft worked in the booth, welcoming fairgoers to test the upper frequency limits of their hearing. Across the two sessions, the team collected data from more than 150 participants.
The project highlighted the lab’s mission to study how humans perceive and process sound, while providing fairgoers with an engaging, hands-on science experience.
