1. Coming Thursday: Psych Scoop Registration Edition

2. New Group C Course for Spring 2018!
PSY 5138: Adult Development & Aging (Area C course, prereq: junior/senior standing), Prof Kristen Kling
Theories/findings concerning age-related changes in mental health, personality, cognitive functioning, productivity are reviewed/interpreted within context of multiple biological, social, and psychological changes that accompany age.
3. Graduate School: Mental Health Info Session

Wondering about graduate programs that lead to mental health related professions? Join Psychology Undergraduate Advising and Child Psychology Undergradate Advising at the Graduate School: Mental Health Info Session on Thursday, November 30th.
You will have the opportunity to hear from admission representatives from 4 local universities. Each will discuss their degrees & career fields in a large group setting. Following the panel discussion, students will have a chance to interact with program representatives individually at tables. Our panelists will represent master's degree programs in Social Work, Counseling Psychology, School Psychology, and Marriage & Family Therapy. Learn about the differences between various grad programs, how licensure works, what various career paths within mental health look like, and more! 4. Psych Club Meeting: Registration Night - Tomorrow!

Not sure what classes to sign up for next semester? Join Psych Club next week for our first ever Registration Night. We will use our time to talk with other psychology students about classes they've taken and recommend as well as potential minors courses that have helped students specialize their psychology interests. Come get to know the people in your major and some potential classmates next semester. Academic Advisor Mary Simonsen will be there to answer specific questions you might have on specific requirements for completing the major and Insomnia Cookies will be served. The MCPA Careers in Student Affairs: Undergraduate Student Event on Saturday, November 18 at Minneapolis Community and Technical College is a daylong informative event to discuss the field of student affairs/higher education, inspire undergraduate students to pursue it, and prepare students for next steps. Interested students can expect to network with professionals who are thrilled to share their insight and advice as it pertains to next steps including pursuing a graduate program and/or beginning professional careers. The schedule includes 3 breakout sessions, a career panel, and an optional resume review. Register at mcpa4you.org to attend. 7. PUBH 1001: Success Over Stress
Consider registering for the Rothenberger Institute's online, one-credit wellness course, PubH 1001: Success Over Stress. This course offers students a concrete way to learn about stress and develop their own stress management plan. You can earn course credit, and it only takes a few hours a week. Learn more about this and other courses online!
8. LEAD 3972: Summer Internship Experience in NYC or San Francisco!
Are you an international student or a leadership minor? Want to spend the summer interning in San Francisco or New York City? Attend an information session and learn more about LEAD 3972, a 3-credit course that pairs international and leadership minor students with a six-week internship! 9. Child Psychology Fall Research Fair - Learn about Research Opportunities in ICD!

Are you looking for Psychology RA positions for spring, or to get involved with research in other ways? Join the Child Psychology Student Organization for this annual event to learn about all kinds of research labs and opportunities in the Institute of Child Development. Students can get involved with research via CPSY 4994 credit or as a volunteer. This is a great way to get to know other students, faculty, and staff, and there will be free food! RSVP appreciated though not required. Psychology majors interested in earning credit in the major for CPSY research: be sure to carefully read PSY Directed Research Guidelines online for instructions on how CPSY 4994 can be counted in the psychology major.
Learning Abroad & Study Away
10. National Student Exchange (NSE) - Study away in the U.S., U.S. territories, or Canada!
Do something different next year! Exchange to another school in the US, Canada, Guam, Puerto Rico or the US Virgin Islands for a summer, semester, or year! Most students pay U of M tuition, receive financial aid, and all students will earn credits towards their degree! Visit nse.umn.edu for more information and a list of NSE schools, and sign up for an info session to learn about the application process. The preferred application deadline for the 2018/2019 school year is February 21st, 2018. Don't delay!
Scholarships & Awards
11. $5,000 Internship Award for CLA Students
CLA Career Services encourages students to apply for the Mulhollem Cravens Leadership Scholarship. This scholarship opportunity combines the hands-on experience of a summer internship with an internship reflection course, enhanced career coaching and alumni mentoring opportunities. Students do not need to have an internship secured in order to apply, and the funds can support a paid or unpaid position. Application deadline is Wednesday, December 13. 12. MNLEND Fellowship - Building the Next Generation of Leaders in Disability Advocacy, Health Access, and Equity
Minnesota Leadership Education in Neurodevelopmental and related Disabilities (MNLEND) is year-long graduate-level interdisciplinary training program focused on creating leaders who will advocate for and improve the quality of life outcomes of infants, children, and adolescents with neurodevelopmental disabilities (such as Autism, FAS, CP, Downs, etc.). MNLEND seeks self-advocates, family members, community practitioners, graduate students, and post docs to apply for the upcoming 2018-2019 academic year. 30-34 Fellows will receive generous award stipends for participation. 13. Announcing New UMN Program in Applied Behavioral Analysis (A.B.A)
Improve the lives of people with disabilities through research through the new M.A. in special education with an emphasis in applied behavior analysis (A.B.A.) in the Department of Educational Psychology within the College of Education and Human Development. Board certified behavior analysts (BCBAs) work with people with disabilities—such as autism spectrum disorder and developmental disabilities—to recognize and analyze problem behaviors and recommend actions to improve their day-to-day lives. We’re looking for psychology and education majors and those interested in applied research who want to make a difference in the world around them, and we’re partial to Gophers. The program is pending Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) board approval and is designed to meet the requirements for national board certification in applied behavior analysis. Graduates will be prepared to sit for the certification exam.

14. Looking for Hands-on work in Healthcare? Volunteer with Kindred Hospice
The largest health care organization in the US has now expanded its hospice services to MN and they are looking for volunteers to join their team. Patient support volunteers visit patient’s in their place of residence throughout the Twin City area and offer extra 1:1 attention, social support and companionship. Administrative volunteers work in the office setting helping with a wide range of office tasks and organization. Flexible hours to work around your schedule and a very rewarding experience serving those at end-of-life and their families.
