This year the keynote speaker is Dr. Kathleen Vohs, Distinguished McKnight University Professor and Land O’Lakes Chair in Marketing at the Carlson School of Management, University of Minnesota. She is also a Gustavus Adolphus Psychological Science Graduate! The title of her keynote is The Hidden Costs of Decision Making. The online registration will take place in March and you will receive information soon about how to find the registration form on the Gustavus Adolphus Psychological Science web site. The only cost is the $5.00 lunch ticket.
Research
10. Undergrad Research Opportunity in I-O Psychology Lab
Professor Deniz Ones’ Environmental Sustainability (green) research team is seeking 3 undergraduate research assistants (UGRA) to begin working in Spring 2019 and to commit at least two semesters (i.e. continue in the Summer or Fall 2019). The UGRA will be involved with research projects on organizations' pro-environmental behaviors in the area of Industrial/Organizational psychology and will have opportunities to gain experience in data collection, data entry, and statistical analysis. UGRAs are expected to commit to approximately 10 hours of work per week, attend research team meetings and work independently on assigned tasks. Ideal candidates are conscientious and motivated psychology students who are interested in gaining research experience. This research experience may be especially important for those considering applying to graduate school in Industrial/Organizational Psychology, Environmental Sciences, or a related field. We strongly prefer students who are proficient in a second language given our archival data retrieval needs (e.g. French, Arabic, German, Turkish, etc.). 11. Volunteer Research Assistant Positions
The Research Exploring Psychological Assessment and Individualized Rehabilitation (REPAIR) Lab, led by Dr. Jacob Finn, at the Minneapolis VA Polytrauma Rehabilitation Center (PRC) is currently looking for two new volunteer research assistants. The REPAIR lab has two current projects: one outpatient traumatic brain injury study (TBI) and one longitudinal TBI study. The outpatient study focused on mild TBI, and the longitudinal study focuses on the full range of severity. Research assistant duties include screening participants, recruitment of new participants, scheduling research appointments, running research sessions, calling participants for follow-up assessments, conducting interviews to assess functioning, documenting efforts in clinical charts, coordinating participant payments, collaborating with members of the interdisciplinary rehabilitation team, reporting progress to collaborators and other agencies, and disseminating results locally. Dr. Finn expects volunteer research assistants to commit at least 8 hours per week to the lab and to commit to at least two full semesters in the lab. 12. Applications to the Master of Arts In Psychological Science (MAPS) program at the University of Minnesota Duluth are due February 15th!
The MAPS program offers a terminal Master’s degree that prepares graduate students with research-based knowledge and skills that are essential for acceptance into doctoral programs and successful careers in organizational, educational, clinical, and counseling settings. We are one program with three integrated tracks: Clinical-Counseling Psychology, Experimental Psychology, and Industrial-Organizational Psychology. Reasons to Consider the MAPS program at UMD include 1.) Small student-to-faculty ratio (we admit only 6 students per track each year, students work closely with faculty and receive exceptional mentorship and supervision); 2.) Funding (To date, 100% of students have been offered part-time teaching assistantships that provide some income and offsets tuition costs. We offer financial support for supervised research experience and travel, and funding for research projects); 3.) Academic Excellence (Our MAPS program is a rigorous, full-time, 2-year program. Most students who have applied to doctoral programs have been accepted. 3.) Applied experiences: (Clinical Counseling students receive intensely supervised assessment and psychotherapy skills training within our technology-enhanced training clinic, and complete an internship in the Duluth community. I/O students complete applied projects with local businesses and the campus community, enabling students to apply theory and models from coursework to real-world settings and develop consulting skills). 17. Yale Cognition & Development Lab 2019 Summer Internship
Applications for the Yale Cognition & Development Lab's 2019 summer research internship program are now available on our website. Our annual summer internship provides the opportunity for highly motivated undergraduate students to gain an intensive, hands-on research experience in close partnership with our full-time lab members. Opportunities are available both to study developmental psychology and adult cognition. Interns might also run studies on, and work to further develop, our online platform TheChildLab.com. Behavioral Dimensions, a private company based out of St. Louis Park, Minnesota, provides intensive services to children with autism and related disabilities. We are currently hiring undergraduate and graduate students from colleges and universities studying in a wide variety of fields. We at Behavioral Dimensions believe that the experiences we can offer students give them excellent opportunities to apply what they are learning in the classroom to real-life situations. Students will learn how to implement research-based behavioral techniques to teach young children a wide variety of skills as well as how to prevent and respond to challenging situations.
