Psychology Advising Announcements
1. Are You Graduating Spring 2018? Save the Date to Celebrate!
Psychology majors who have applied for Spring 2018 graduation will soon be receiving an email invitation to the 2018 Psychology Undergraduate Celebration. This annual psychology undergraduate event recognizes award recipients and graduating seniors in front of peers, staff, faculty, and family for all of their accomplishments! The event will be held on campus Friday, May 4, 2017 from 4:00pm to 6:00pm. Please mark your calendars now and keep an eye out for your email invitation which will be sent following Spring Break. 2. Research in Psychology Fair

Psychology undergraduate students, stop by the lobby of Elliott Hall anytime between 1-3pm on Thursday, April 5th to learn about psychology research opportunities! Representatives from psychology research labs, UROP, and Psychology Advising will be available to answer your questions. This event is specifically recommended for Psychology BS majors planning to complete major project during the 2018-19 academic year, but all students interested in learning more about psychology research opportunities are welcome.

Are you considering a RESEARCH based graduate school. Come hear from our Associate Director of Grad Studies Rachel Goeller on what makes a competitive applicant for research based grad programs. You'll also hear from a panel of graduate students at the U of M in various research areas to better learn about their process of applying to research based graduate schools, reaching out to faculty about their research, and everything in-between! 4. Join Psi Chi/Psych Club for Grad School Fair
Today! Wednesday, March 28th, 5:00-6:30pm
N219 Elliott Hall
Join Psi Chi in collaboration with IOPC and PISA in our very first Grad School Fair. This interactive event will allow students to choose the information they want by providing a variety of booths to choose from with graduate students placed at each one. Examples of booths include How To Write a CV, Letters of Recommendation, Masters Programs, I/O Psychology, Applying Abroad, and Clinical Psych. Food will be provided by UMN Dining. Come for 5 minutes or the full hour and a half.
5. Apply To Be a Psi Chi/Psych Club Officer

We are currently looking for a new Secretary, Officer of Recruitment, and Public Relations Officer! All positions are asked to come to officer meetings to help the current officers plan events and train into the positions before next school year. 6. Apply for Psi Chi, the International Honor Society in Psychology

Psi Chi is the International National Honor Society in Psychology. It's a great way to improve your resume and become eligible for new opportunities within the field of psychology. Scholarships
7. HECUA Scholarships
Deadline: April 15th
HECUA is able to offer eleven ($1000) scholarships for our Race in America students specifically. Eight of the eleven will be set aside for Racial Justice Scholarships and three will be offered as Social Justice Scholarships. These scholarship applications will also be due April 15th, same day as the program application deadline.
To learn more about this program or others, please join us for our upcoming info session on Wednesday, March 21st from 11:45-1:15pm in Coffman 303. Pizza will be provided!
8. Community Health Initiative (CHI) Undergraduate Scholarship
Deadline: April 2nd at 11:59pm
The CHI Undergraduate Scholarship, sponsored by the Office for Business & Community Economic Development (BCED) with funding from Medica, supports full-time undergraduate students who are pursuing a health-related career and who show academic promise and financial need. Students must be currently enrolled at the University of Minnesota Twin Cities Campus and must demonstrate maturity, adaptability, and respect for diversity and other cultures. The CHI Undergraduate Scholarship is administered by the Multicultural Center for Academic Excellence (MCAE).

9. Swipe Out Hunger Interest Meeting

Swipe Out Hunger focuses on addressing food insecurity on campus through collecting donated guest meal swipes and distributing them to students in need. We are looking for passionate volunteers to assist in planning our upcoming Hunger Awareness week in April, and committed students to join our board. Why is this issue important? During the 2016-27 school year, 20% of CLA students reported that they skipped or cut the size of meals because there wasn't enough money for food. We are hosting our first interest meeting this Wednesday, March 28th from 7:30-8:30 PM in Folwell 18.

11. Political Science/Sociology Pre-Registration Resource Fair

The Political Science and Sociology Departments will be teaming up at the end of this month to host the Pre-Registration Resource Fair. This fair is a fantastic opportunity for students of either department to learn about all the resources available to Political Science and/or Sociology students.
Representatives will include members of CLA career services, HECUA, the CCEL, Learning Abroad Center, undergraduate advisors, student groups, and more! FREE PIZZA will be provided to all those who RSVP for this event by March 29th.
12. Health Professional School Expo
Thursday, April 5th, 10:00-2:00pm
UMN RecWell Center - 4th Floor (MAC Gym)
The Health Professional School Expo will bring over 40 health professional schools from around the country to campus to network with students. Whether your're a freshman or a senior, it can be great experience to get face to face with an admissions representative, ask questions about the program and the profession, and share a bit about yourself.
A full listing of schools and programs will be available in the Health Professional School Expo mobile guide, in the U Minnesota app, which will go live early next week. The guide will also include some questions to help students prepare for the event, no matter where you are at in the exploration or preparation process.
The HPSE is sponsored by the UMN Pre-Health Student Resource Center and the Interprofessional Pre-Health Students organization.
13. ARC Minnesota Site Visit
Thursday, April 5th, 9:30-12:30pm
Cost: FREE for all CLA Students
During this visit, you will learn what The Arc does and how our thrift stores assist in meeting the organization's mission of advancing the civil rights of persons with intellectual and developmental disabilities. You will have a chance to, meet with staff from both retail and headquarters, attend a presentation on what Arc does, tour a retail facility, participate in a business activity, learn how a liberal arts education ties to multiple career paths within The Arc and other professions, and learn how seemingly unconnected organizations can actually work together for a common goal.
This event is a good fit for students with interests in human services, non-profit management, retail management, merchandising, and entrepreneurship. Bus transportation will be provided from the East Bank Campus, departing at 9:30am and returning at 12:30pm.

14. Narrative, Identity, Culture and Education Lab
The Narrative, Identity, Culture and Education Lab run by Dr. Moin Syed is seeking undergraduate research assistants for Fall semester. Tasks will focus on general data management and organization. Tasks will include data organization, quantitative coding, and other detail oriented tasks. 15. St. Thomas Professional Psychology Online Information Session
The Graduate School of Professional Psychology at the University of Saint Thomas will be hosting an online information session Saturday, April 21, 2018, 10 a.m. – 12 p.m. The M.A. in Counseling Psychology program session will begin at 10:00 a.m. and the PsyD program session will begin at 10:50 a.m. Students interested in the MA with Direct Admission to the PsyD program are encouraged to attend both. 16. Position Opening: College Health Corps VISTA with the Center for Health Interprofessional Programs (CHIP)
Impact health and education equity in the Twin Cities! Build structures, programming and resources to increase engagement between U of MN students, healthcare centers, and underserved populations. Apply to be a College Health Corps VISTA with CHIP! This is a full-time, year-long national service position that starts July 9th, 2018.
Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis until the position is filled, with the final application deadline as May 4th.

18. CLA Advising in Bruininks is Hiring 2 Peer Advisors
CLA Advising in Bruininks is hiring 2 Peer Advisors to start this summer! Job Posting ID: 322748. The primary duties of Bruininks Hall CLA peer advisors are: assisting students with advising decisions; serving as a liaison between students and university programs and services; and assisting in the provision of academic support services including referrals to other academic units and/or sources of academic learning such as tutors or career guidance professionals. Preference will be given to applications received on or before April 6th but application materials will be reviewed until the position is filled. Applicants must submit a cover letter, resume, and names and contact information of two references to be considered.
19. Bureau of Criminal Apprehension Lab Epstein - Rhoads Internship
This internship seeks to provide an experience for college students interested in entering the field of forensic science. This program offers students an opportunity for observation of forensic scientists at their work, as well as involvement in working on an assigned laboratory project.
