Dr. Karma Chávez (Bobby and Sherri Patton Professor of Mexican American and Latina/o Studies, The University of Texas at Austin) will present the RIDGS Keynote Lecture entitled: “The Assault on Higher Education and What You Can Do About It.” Dr. Jessica Lopez Lyman (Associate Professor, Chicano & Latino Studies) will serve as discussant.
In this talk, Karma Chávez uses her experiences organizing against the right-wing attacks on higher education in the state of Texas to discuss the state of higher education; the Right's playbook for higher education--including in blue states; and what faculty, staff, students, and community members can do to confront the assault and build the institutions we need and want.
