Second-Year Success Series

Make Your Second Year Count!

Welcome back, second-year students! We'd like to introduce you to the CLA Second-Year Success Series, an optional program that will help you navigate the opportunities and challenges of the second year in the College of Liberal Arts at the University of Minnesota. This series includes workshops, events, and peer advising designed to help you excel and enrich your second year.

Program Overview

Engagement Activities

The series requires that you complete a minimum of four engagement activities.

Peer-Led

Each participant in the Second-Year Success Series will be paired with a peer leader. Your peer leader will help you transition into the second year, help you design a plan unique to your goals, and host small group meetings with other second-year students.

Reflection

You will sign in and complete an online reflection or have the option to attend a small group reflection meeting for each of your four activities. Peer leaders will read your reflections and follow up with encouragement and ideas for next steps. They will also lead the small group reflections, which will offer yet another opportunity to share and learn from each other's experiences.

Achievement Celebration

Participants who complete the program will have a small group celebration in April with your peer leaders, an opportunity to reflect, share, and look ahead to junior year. You will also be given your earned certificate at that time!

Why Participate?

The second year at the University of Minnesota is full of opportunities and challenges. You are making critical choices about majors and professions while handling difficult coursework, social navigation, and higher expectations. First year students are given a lot of information on how to succeed and transition into college. We want to continue to provide you with resources and support in order to develop that success throughout your second year, and to formally recognize your growth and accomplishment.

How Do You Get Started?

If you would like to participate in this new series, please sign up to have someone contact you to set up an individual welcome session.
