New Fluoride Study Challenges Trump Admin Stance
Professor Rob Warren and fellow researchers and co-authors published the article "Childhood fluoride exposure and cognition across the life course." This article has received national media attention, and articles have been published citing the research findings on CNN and Scientific American.
This article addresses the claim that fluoride exposure through water negatively impacts cognition. However, the study found robust evidence that young people who are exposed to typical, recommended levels of fluoride in drinking water perform better on tests of mathematics, reading, and vocabulary achievement in secondary school than their peers who were never exposed to sufficient levels of fluoride. People who were exposed to typical, recommended levels of fluoride in adolescence may perform better on assessments of cognitive functioning at age ~60, but the results of those models are inconclusive.
